Alfonso is an established freelance musical director and musical supervisor in the West End who is regularly invited by major orchestras in the UK and abroad. 

He just had his Broadway debut as Music Supervisor for Stephen Sondheim’s “Old Friends” with a wonderful cast led by Bernadette Peters and Lea Salonga.

As a freelance professional his work includes musical direction for film, television and games, musical theatre, symphonic music, musical production... as well as composing and arranging for theatre, games, advertising, and film.

Concert credits include BBCCO, ROSS (Seville Symphony Orchestra), OBC (Barcelona Symphony), Bournemouth Symphony, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Hallé Orchestra, Royal Northern Symphonia, London Concert Orchestra, London Contemporary Orchestra, Philarmonia Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Orquesta de la Ópera del Liceo, ... etc

Amongst his recent projects as freelance conductor, Alfonso has appeared in “Old Friends” (Samuel J. Friedman theatre, New York and Sondheim and Gielgud Theatre, London) with a great star cast including Petula Clark, Bernadette Peters, Lea Salonga, Damian Lewis, Dame Judi Dench, Beth Leavel and many more. “Disney’s Fantasia” live in Seville with the ROSS, “Motown Symphonic” (Hallé, RLPO and Ulster) “My Fair Lady” (BSO at The Grange Festival and Liceù Opera in Barcelona)

As a regular collaborator with major film composers, he has conducted the soundtracks for many films including Jingle Jangle, Christmas Chronicles 2, Thunder force, Halo, The Croods 2, Jurassic World: Dominion, Nightmare Alley, Big Beasts, Chevalier, ARK: Animated Series…etc at London’s Abbey Road Studios and AIR Lyndhurst.

He is currently the Musical Supervisor for many Cameron Mackintosh's shows around the world as well as a guest teacher at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

As a composer, Alfonso has composed the music for the feature films Venus, and Héroes de Barrio, as well as jingles for Disney, Nickelodeon, advertising companies etc. His work in Film and TV includes the translation and direction of many Disney shows in Spanish (Tangled, Fancy Nancy, TOPS, Mira Royal Detective, Gigantosaurus, Phineas and Ferb, Spongbob Square pants… etc)

For theatre, he was the arranger and orchestrator of the music of La Bamba! A musical, as well as composer of extra music and original songs. Music Supervisor for the touring version of 101 Dalmatians – The musical, for which he has also composed extra music and done arrangements.

Major credits in musical theatre include Les Misérables (MD/Supervisor in Spain, Brazil, Japan, London, and Dubai), Miss Saigon (MD/Supervisor in London, Japan, Sydney Operaand Asian Tour), Phantom of the Opera (MD/ Supervisor London, Vienna and UK Tour), Mamma Mia! (Spain MD – International Asst. Musical Supervisor)

Recordings as a conductor include the 25th anniversary Gala of Miss Saigon (released also on DVD worldwide), Les Misérables – The staged concert at the Gielgud Theatre in London (also released worldwide on video and cinemas), “Old Friends” recorded live at the Sondheim theatre, Spanish Music of the XX Century with the BBCCO alongside soloists Juan Pérez and Magdalena Llamas.

Awards include Best Musical director in Spain for Los Miserables and Best Musical director in the West End for Miss Saigon. (Broadwayworld Awards)
